Grand Haven Lights
Grand Haven, Michigan - Built in 1839 and 1905
Two pier lighthouses mark the entrance from Lake Michigan to the
entrance of the Grand River. They are known as the Grand Haven South
Pier Inner Light and the Grand Haven South Pierhead Light. They stand several
hundred feet apart on a long stone pier with a long catwalk which joins both lights
and connects them to the shore. This catwalk was built for the safety of the
keepers who manned this post. These pierhead lighthouses are situated in
Grand Haven State Park which affords a nice relaxing afternoon of swimming or camping.
