Ocracoke Lighthouse

Ocracoke Lighthouse

Ocracoke Island, North Carolina
Built in 1823

Ocracoke Lighthouse is the oldest active lighthouse in North Carolina
and the second oldest lighthouse in the United States in continuous service.
It is believed that an Indian village once existed at the site of this lighthouse.
Legend also says that Blackbeard the Pirate used Ocracoke Island as a
hideout in the early 1700's
